Spot welding

Spot welding is commonly referred to as resistance welding. So, don’t get confused if we use these two interchangeably. It is mostly preferred for joining two sheets of metal together. It all involves heating the two metal sheets to a certain temperature and then pressure is applied to bond them together. There is no need for a filler in this method as we will see in the other methods.

MIG welding

MIG, an acronym for Metal Inert Gas, is the most superior all the three welding techniques that we use. We, therefore, prefer it in welding together two metals that are used in heavy machinery and that which is meant to last forever. If you have very thick metals that you want to bond together, then we will definitely use this method. In this technique, a wire is continuously fed through the tip of a welding gun. Electric current is used to melt the wire which acts as the filler to bond the two metals together without having to heat the metals themselves. It is faster than TIG and also a clean process that does not require much cleanup.

TIG welding

TIG, an acronym for Tungsten Inert Gas, is also another welding method where heating of the two parts to be joined is done, just as it was in the spot welding. However, in this case, a tungsten rod is used to heat the metals to be joined at the joint until they begin to melt to form a weld. This time, it is not the tungsten rod that melts but the metals to be bonded. Because of the heating used, this method is also limited to joining metals of relatively small thickness.
